What are the essential cycling undergarments for men?

When we talk about bike underwear, we're not talking about briefs, boxers or other boxer shorts, which are banished under the shorts for comfort, but technical clothing. But then, what are the essential underwear for cycling for men?

Why is it necessary to wear underwear when cycling?

When cycling, wearing a technical undergarment under your short- or long-sleeved cycling jerseys helps to evacuate sweat and therefore keep your body dry during exercise.

The underwear is worn directly in contact with your skin, fitted to your body, and will then be completed with a second layer, then a third in the winter. So there are underwear suitable for every season.

The essential underwear for summer

In the summer, with the heat, we might tend to neglect this step...and yet, wearing underwear under your swimsuit will allow you to wick moisture and regulate your body temperature.

Lightweight and very breathable during this time of year, it will usually be sleeveless.

The essential underwear for winter

In winter, underwear will be worn in long sleeves, will be thicker and usually have a high neck.

As in summer, its mission will be to evacuate perspiration to practice your effort in the dry, to regulate your body temperature, but also to keep your body warm.
With the addition of a second layer (jersey) and then a third layer (thermal jacket), you will thus be prepared to ride in winter, even when the temperatures are cool.

When the temperatures drop, your extremities get cold quickly. That's why you can complete your outfit by slipping a thermal hat under your helmet to keep your head and ears warm during your ride.

Mid-season underwear essentials

In the mid-season, temperatures often change during your outing.

As with summer and winter, the undershirt will keep you dry during the ride thanks to sweat wicking and temperature regulation, but can also benefit from windproof fabric on the torso to protect against changing weather.

With short sleeves, it will allow it to be worn equally well under a short or long sleeve cycling jersey depending on the temperatures.

With these tips on choosing cycling underwear, you're now ready to ride dry throughout the cycling season.
