Before joining Lotto Soudal in 2015, De Gendt had already achieved great stage victories in Paris-Nice and in the Tour de Suisse.
During the 2012 Giro, De Gendt won the penultimate stage with the arrival at the top of the legendary ascent of the Stelvio after having ridden all day in the breakaway.
De Gendt also had some brilliant victories for Lotto Soudal. The breakaway specialist won the 12th stage of the Tour de France 2016 with a finish at the top of the legendary Mont Ventoux.
Since winning a stage in the Vuelta in 2017, he has now won a stage in each Grand Tour. Thomas has also triumphed 4 times in the Volta a Catalunya.
De Gendt often focuses on the mountain ranking. He has already won the mountain jersey once in the Tour de Romandie & the Down Under Tour. On the Volta a Catalunya & at Paris-Nice, he won it twice. And at La Vuelta of 2018 he was again the top climber.
