When should I change the sleeves on my glasses?

If you have vision problems and want to play sports, you must have asked yourself at some point: what eyeglasses for cycling? Once you've found your favorite pair of cycling glasses, it's hard to live without them. So when it starts to get damaged, it hurts your heart to have to change glasses. But did you know that there are spare parts? In this article, we explain when and how to change the sleeves of your glasses.

What is an eyeglass sleeve?

The sleeve is the part that sits at the end of the eyeglass temple, on the part that can sometimes be slightly curved. On sports eyewear, this part is usually made of a soft, non-slip material for comfort: this way, the eyewear stays in place, doesn't slip or rub on the part of the skull that comes in contact with this part of the eyewear. On some models, this part of the temples may be adjustable for an optimal fit, as is the nose bridge, which is usually designed in the same material.

When to change the sleeves on my glasses

Since bicycle goggle sleeves are made of a soft material, since they are in direct contact with the skull and rub under the helmet, they often get damaged faster than the rest of the goggle. This is also the case for the nose pads, due to rubbing and sweat.
At the price a pair of sports glasses costs, do you think it's a shame to have to completely replace your favorite glasses just for this? And you're absolutely right. That's why there are spare parts, including for sleeves and nose pads.

How do I change the sleeves on my glasses?

To change the sleeves on your glasses, simply remove the ones already in place. If they are really damaged, the task should be even easier. Otherwise, you'll need to be a little patient. Once you've done this first step, clean the temples and put on the new sleeves - compatible with your frame - that you've purchased beforehand, instead of the old ones.
The maneuver is similar with the nose pads. Remove the old ones, clean the location well before putting the new ones in.

Now your pair of glasses is back in business!
