Who is Philippe Gilbert?

Philippe Gilbert is a puncheur, a specialist in the Ardennes and Flanders classics, but he describes himself above all as a versatile rider.

In 1999, in his first year as a junior, he won 12 races. The following year, he won 19 during the season.

During the 2011 season, nothing resists the Belgian rider: he starts his season by winning the Strade Bianche as well as a stage of Tirreno-Adriatico and the Brabant Arrow.
Then he managed the feat of winning all three Ardennes classics in the same season: the Amstel Gold Race, the Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
At the national championships, he did the double: he became Belgian Road and Time Trial Champion, before winning his first stage in the Tour de France, which earned him the yellow jersey for a day.
