Why a 1:1 ratio?
A 1:1 ratio means 1 part glucose to 1 part fructose.
During exercise, absorption of glucose from the gut into the bloodstream is limited to about 60–70 g per hour. By adding an equivalent amount of fructose, which uses a different absorption pathway, total carb uptake can be increased to 100–120 g per hour, while improving gut tolerance at high intakes.
