Why a 2:1 carbohydrate ratio?
A 2:1 ratio means 2 parts glucose to 1 part fructose.
During exercise, the absorption of glucose from the gut into the bloodstream is limited to about 60–70 g per hour. By adding fructose, which is absorbed via a different pathway, total carbohydrate uptake can be increased up to 90 g per hour.
