Team Arkea Samsic is a French cycling team that has been around since 2005.
If you're passionate about bike racing, you're bound to want to know everything about the cycling teams you can find in the peloton in 2021. So, on this occasion, we offer you a focus on the French team Arkea Samsic.

Team Introduction

The Team Arkea Samsic is part of the Continental Pro Team (UCI Pro Team) category.

Known as Arkea Samsic since 2019, it has gone by other names before. When it was created, the team was called Bretagne-Jean Floc'h before being renamed successively Bretagne-Armor Lux, Bretagne-Schuller and then Bretagne-Séché Environnement.
In 2016, the main sponsor became Fortuneo: the team was initially named Fortuneo-Vital Concept, then Fortuneo-Oscaro and finally Fortuneo-Samsic.
In 2019, the team is renamed Arkéa-Samsic: Arkéa being the name of the mutualist banking group that owns Fortuneo and Samsic being a French business services company.

Emmanuel Hubert has been the general manager of the structure since 2014, after having been one of its sports directors for several seasons.

Arkea Samsic's key wins

As a Continental Pro team, Arkea Samsic must receive invitations to participate in World Tour races and especially in the grand tours. Since its existence, it has thus been able to participate seven times in the Tour de France but has never won any stages. The best result to date remains Warren Barguil's tenth place overall in 2019.

Never the less, the team's palmarès is well stocked with more than 50 victories to its credit. In 2020, for example, Nairo Quintana brought two important successes to the team with the Tour de la Provence as well as the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var.

The team has also won the Coupe de France team classification three times (2014, 2015 and 2017).

Team leaders

For this 2021 season, Arkea Samsic will have 27 riders on its roster.

The team will be based primarily around Nairo Quintana, Warren Barguil and Nacer Bouhanni

Nairo Quintana

The 31-year-old Colombian climber Nairo Quintana joined the team in 2020 from Movistar with one goal in mind: to win races and aim for the general classification in grand tours.

In his 10-year career, he has won the Giro d'Italia in 2014 and the Vuelta in Spain in 2016. He has also finished on the podium four times in the Tour de France. In total, he has won eight stages in the grand tours: three in the Giro de France, the same in the Giro d'Italia and two in the Tour of Spain. In 2013, he achieved the Best Young Rider and Best Climber double in the Tour de France while finishing second overall to Christopher Froome.

But the Colombian has also won Tirreno-Adriatico twice (2015, 2017) as well as the Tour of Catalonia and the Tour de Romandie in 2016.

Warren Barguil

The 29-year-old Warren Barguil is the team's second climber. Since the arrival of Nairo Quintana, his goal is to support him in the mountains as far as possible...or to fill in if his leader fails. He will also have his card to play in certain races.

In his professional debut in 2011 and his first appearance in the Tour of Spain, he won two stages.
In 2017, he also won two stages in the Tour de France and finished as the best climber.
In 2019, Warren Barguil won the French road cycling championship.

Nacer Bouhanni

The 30-year-old Nacer Bouhanni is the team's sprinter. He joined Arkea Samsic in 2020 from Cofidis.

In his first year with the team, he won the General Classification of the French Cup (which he had already won in 2015), as well as the first stage of the Tour de la Provence and two other one-day races (Grand Prix d'Isbergues and Paris-Chauny).

His record speaks for itself as he has won more than 65 victories in the professional ranks, including a French championship title in 2012.
In particular, he has won several stages in Paris-Nice (2013, 2014, 2016), the Critérium du Dauphiné (2 in 2015, 1 in 2016), the Giro d'Italia (3 in 2014) or the Tour of Spain (2 in 2014, 1 in 2018). Only the Tour de France is missing from his record in the grand tours.

To fulfill the team's goals, they will be assisted in their task by the following riders:

  • Winner Anacona;
  • Thomas Boudat;
  • Maxime Bouet;
  • Amaury Capiot;
