At the start of the stage, Luis Angel Maté decides to place himself at the forefront in the company of a group of fugitives, then approaching the line takes off with the only rider able to follow the pace.
The "Lynx Andalou" takes advantage of a final embankment 200 meters from the finish to place a decisive attack and win his 3rd professional victory alone (12 years after his last triumph on the Route du Sud).
Thanks to this success, the Basque formation Euskatel Euskadi unlocks its counter this season.
